We review the attacks in light of analog and digital safeties as well as secondary protections in automation systems. Then, given these examples, we go back to basics – what are the real cyber risks we need to worry about? What are the tools & techniques available to manage those risks? And which of these tools and techniques make more sense in smaller water systems vs larger systems and why?

About The Speakers:
Andrew Ginter is the VP Industrial Security at Waterfall Security Solutions. At Waterfall, Andrew leads a team of experts who work with the world’s most secure industrial sites. He is author of two books on industrial security, a co-author of the Industrial Internet Consortium’s Security Framework, and the co-host of the Industrial Security Podcast. Andrew spent 35 years designing SCADA system products for Hewlett Packard, IT/OT connectivity products for Agilent Technologies, and OT/ICS security products for Industrial Defender and Waterfall Security Solutions.
Michael Firstenberg is the Director of Industrial Security at Waterfall Security Solutions. Mike brings two decades of experience in Process Control Security, specializing in Control System Cyber Security. With a proven track record as a hands-on engineer – researching, designing, and implementing strategic security solutions, Mike has an established background working with governmental institutions, regulatory authorities, and industrial utilities. The former chair of the American Water SCADA Council, Mike studied Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, and Mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania, and participates actively in ISA SP99, and serves on committees that have created Industrial Cybersecurity guidelines and roadmaps.
